Black Womxn Lead culminates Mills Colleges’ 2018 celebration of Black History Month, organized by Mills College student Sela Kerr (BA ‘19).

The exhibit included 25 handmade posters of important black womxn and a 15-20 minute compilation video of the most prominent and important speeches, lectures, films, songs and demonstrations from these people. Not all of them were incorporated into the video but the exhibit highlighted the accomplishments of  Ava Duvernay, Oprah, Yara Shahidi, Amandla Stenberg, Elaine Welteroth, Kamala Harris, Shirley Chisholm, Michelle Obama, Toyin Odutola, Solange Knowles, Queen Afua, Roxane Gay, Angela Davis, Willow Smith, Toni Morrison, Lupita Nyong'o, Mae Jemison, bell hooks, Josephine Baker, Lorraine Hansberry and Barbra Lee.

This exhibit collectively carried the common themes and messages about black womanhood, empowerment and self confidence. This experience created space to inspire, encourage and comfort the black students of Mills while introducing the student body to powerful motifs and getting them acquainted with the talented black womxn being featured.
