Seat at the Table

“A Seat at the Table” is a phrase referring to a position as a member of a group that makes decisions.

Students from ART091 (191): Ceramics created a physical ‘seat at the table.’ This exhibition explores how a culture’s social values can be built into our physical environments. Drawing upon personal family history, current events, or personal experiences, students created chairs that explore social dynamics, power, or justice.

Some of these chairs welcome participants to sit on them, while others are meant for view only. Please use care when interacting with the artwork.

Featuring works by Catherine Amis, Abigail Choruby, Emma Doven, Greer Gates, Sloane Gershov, Adeline Herrera Orozco, Francesca Jayne, Shelby Krout, Kayano Laws, Erica Lee, Ray Lewis, Brandon Logans, Shantel Mercedes, Tatyana Soto, and Jenna Sternstein.
